2016.09.19 Cashmere Aplets and Cotlets, Leavenworth Bavarian Village, Anthony's, Chinese Lantern Festival

Up early to get rental van for trip west to Leavenworth. First stop was Aplet and Cotlet Shop and factory in Cashmere

A couple brothers from Armenia used apples and apricot fruit from their orchard  combined org nuts to make the candy in 1920 that was like candy from their home country Here is the original stove they used.
My sister Linda got Mom a box of these every time she came home so they are familiar in my family. When I was in Istanbul I tried the Turkish Delights and immediately thought Aplets and Cotlets. Today they make 2.5 million pounds every year.

On to Leavenworth.
 Shops in style of Bavaria:

Door to public library

Then drive back on Hwy 2 to Spokane. Down a long descent into a valley then back up onto hilltop with field after field of wheat and to Anthony's restaurant which overlooks the Spokane Falls and Riveraide Park for appetizers and drinks.

Then walk to Riveraide Park to Chineae Lantern Festival and performance by acrobats and contortionists and yoyo tossing.

Huge stack of blue and white Chineae plates.
