AAPRCO Trip 2014 - Day 4: Monday, September 22

This was the view out our Westin Hotel -- locally known as the Eastland Hotel, window this morning.  We are in a historic part of downtown Portland.

We are in an "Ask Amtrak" session at the American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners (AAPRCO) convention at the Westin. Shown below are Tom Lanahan from AAPRCO, Amtrak rep, Jack Hurd, Lee from Amtrak, Mike Kelly, train doctor, Taylor Johnson, president of AAPRCO, Charlie.

Here is our schedule:

We ate an overpriced lunch in the Westin restaurant. Here is crab cake salad and lobster sliders.

Then I took a walk down Congress Street the "spine" to buy some wine for Borden and Nelson's Deering Party tonight. Saw a local organic cafe and bought my all-time smallest and most expensive Maine Maple Latte for just short of $5 at Hot Suppa and photograhed a few things below:

Baxter Building on Congress Street:

Longfellow statue:

Hot Suppa mural:

Chef Geoffery Boardman shows how to arrange your refrigerator on your train:
Then a presentation by the Feld Entertainment which organizes the Ringlinging Brothers and Disney on Ice and other large shows moved by train.

Scott met us at the hotel and we took the shuttle out to the train car parties. Here are some photos from that:

And finally at the invitation of Borden Black we went to the Dearing for some food and Texas Milkshakes and Mark got a little birthday bar with a candle to blow out.
