2015.06.16 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum

Spent the day at the Rock and Roll Hall if Fame and Museum along Lake Erie. It was a day well spent! Here are some pics from the day.

Science center next door:

Get your money out of a jukebox ATM.
LOVE!
Janice Joplin's Porche:
Fender guitars for police and fire Eric Clapton had made after 911.

Guitars of Early Influencers John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters:

More Muddy Waters:

And banjo head of Pete Seeger:  "this machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender" followed by a peace sign. Saw a couple of these heads in the exhibit.

Bob Marley shirt. There were lots of his lyrics posted, too.

Censorship exhibit with Frank Zappa testimony before Congress: "Rock music was never written for or performed for conservative tastes."  1985
Ice~T to Rolling Stone on censorship : "Cop Killer" was a protest record man.  It was a record of anger and some people did not understand it... I have a right to protest because the cops are killing my people." c 1992

Elvis Presley toured with 200 meditative books. I liked a quote from here reminded me of Dr. Spit:  "To everything in the world say thank you. And when you're thankful to all things and all men and even all ailments then the true peace visit your heart."
Rick noticed that Elvis didn't use any of his class six stickers which were for booze on the base but he did use the ones for tobacco:
Janice Joplin's scarves, beads, glasses, Big Brother and Holding Company bass guitar and shirt.
Close up of Funeral program for JJ "Drinks will be on Pearl":

Love the bright and colorful 70s. Clothes from Jimmy Hendrix:

Last outfit he performed in- the pants had flares and pleates below the knees:
Jimi's guitar. He also drew as a kid and had several drawings- this one about train safety the year I was born:

Purple Haze lyrics. Exhibit had lots of notebooks with lyrics.

This was a bumper sticker inside a traveling trunk which explains a lot of the rock era:

Little Richard outfit:
Can't tell it but the gold thing on left is the Michael Jackson sequenced glove. There was a nice exhibit of his jackets but hard to get good shot in dark.
Supremes dresses:

ZZ Top special guitars from rough boy video. Rick was singing the lyrics to the tube steak boogie which was a different video:

Omaha's own Conner Oberst had a guitar and lyrics in exhibit in the Midwestern Rock Exhibit and lyrics from Lincoln's Matthew Sweet.

Exhibit went progressively higher and higher.

The most unusual dress was this Lady Ga Ga metallic creation. Shoulder straps, bra, and hip parts in the middle. The circles surround her. Would be impossible to get up if you fell down!

View from level with cafe and outside patio:

A couple theaters had inductee highlights playing.

Pink Floyd's The Wall was on 4. Rick loves Pink Floyd.

Looking down from level 5 to wall. The last 2 levels were dedicated to Herb Ritts rock star photographs.

Gift store! $1500 book about guitars. Lots of music, too.

My purchases: rubber bracelet ....

Button:

Postcard of Wilson Pickett and Jimi Hendrix to send to work:

Next stop was Parkview Nite Club off of Detroit for a Diners Drive-ins and Dives supper or rib and potato soup, country fried asparagus, pulled pork tacos and salmon blt.

Ended the day driving back to hotel on Broadway stopping at the Bedford neighborhood to check out train and hobby shop hours for tomorrow. We parked in front of this gem.

Then watched Cavs play Golden State in NBA finals.  We drove by the Q Center earlier on our way back.  Cavs are losing big time after LaBron James said he was the best player in the world....

2015.06.15 Amish Country, Ohio

Today we left Deb and Tom's and headed toward Cleveland via Amish country. First stop was New California to see the Civil War memorial. This is where Grandma Lucille Ellis Warden grew up. There were a couple Ellis names on the memorial. The memorial is to the left of this church.
Daniel W Ellis below  was killed (#) in action.
Rick said Squirrel Hunters are snipers.

Went to Marysville Oakdale Cemetery to see Mother Stone's gravestone and also grandma and grandpa Warden and various other relatives not quite sure how they are related but I'm putting their tombstones on here for future reference. They are all in Section F.

In Mount Vernon we saw the Baltimore and Ohio the newly restored depot.
Further up the street was the city Square in Mount Vernon and it had a historical marker for Mother Bidkerdyke- Mary Ann Ball who was a nurse during the Civil War and she gave service to everybody Negro, confederate, union, and so was greatly appreciated by the soldiers.
Next stop was a Kidron via Amish country route we ran into some Amish wagons kids along the side selling strawberries.

We stopped at the large Lehman's hardware store in Kidron that catered to Amish needs.

Buggy parked out back.
Kerosene Tail lights for a buggy:
Propane heated irons- the black are the iron handles:
Appliances that run on propane - this one looked like a wooden ice box.
Composting toilets:
LP freezer:
They sold some interesting flavors of soda for $2.99 a bottle.

The interesting thing is we were checking out was there were a couple of Amish people who are using credit cards to pay for their purchases. I don't understand.

Then on toward Cleveland to eat at a Diners Drive-ins and Dives place Geraci's Italian place since 1956:

I had a rolled eggplant dish and Rick had a pasta dish.

And Canoli for dessert.
Holiday Inn Express by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was $179 a night. Cav's NBA basketball championship games still on tomorrow night so jacking up prices so chose one further out.

20135.06.14 Columbus Sharks Baseball

Went to see a Avery (13) play two games of Columbus Sharks baseball today from 5-11. He's an outfielder and then at the end of the second game he started to pitch. It was hot and steamy and it rained a couple of times. They had 2 overtime innings and lost by one run.

2016.06.13 Plain City Ohio

Drove from Danville which is just outside Indiana all the way to plain city got there at 1:30 just after Avery's graduation party started. Then we had a rain and very nice double rainbow. Was able to get my 10,000 steps in today with a little night walk around the neighborhood.

2015.06.12 Illinois

Left on our adventure to Ohio today. Stopped at Peoria at steak and shake for supper right alongside the Illinois River and then made it to Danville Illinois for the night. Here is a riverboat seen on the Illinois River that runs through Peoria. Left my Hawaii sundress at the hotel so I'm really sad right now is my aloha sundress from a Hawaii trip about 2011.
