Rick and I are heading out on our Florida road trip today. I started my first day of vacation sleeping in until 9. Gassed, washed and cleaned the car and got some Just Popped popcorn for the trip. Packed light in my backpack - 3 pants, 5 shirts, boots and birks, swim suit, jean jacket, black wind breaker and pashmina to layer, snow boots and down jacket just in case. Looks like it will be 60s in Florida. Rick got home from work a little early so we hit the roat at 5:05pm. Took Plattview Road across the new Missouri River Bridge (Hwy 34) to I 29 South. I 29 was getting pretty clogged toward KC so took Hwy 36 which was four lane and very light traffic, then south on HWY 63 which was also 4 lane and very light traffic to Columbia. The last 90 minutes it was spitting light sleet and the roads were wet and it was about 32 degrees but luckily roads were not slick. You could see piles of snow that just dropped. Only stopped once at an exit so Rick could pair his phone with my car's blue tooth so we could listen to some podcasts-the car won't let you do this while driving. Pulled into the Holiday Inn Express at 10pm. Pool was open until 11 so I took a swim and met some people from Lincoln, Omaha, and KC. Good first day of travel - -only wish it had been in daylight.
